During term time, we run weekly mentoring sessions in Buxton and Leytonstone school. These
sessions work 1-2-1 with young people who the school has identified as
benefitting from additional support. Some young people do not have
positive adult relationships in their lives; others may be facing issues
which they feel they cannot talk about with their parents or teachers. A
mentor is someone who will support the young person, challenge them to
look at things from a different perspective but above all else be
willing to listen to them and make them feel respected and valued as a
person. Our volunteer mentors recieve a term of training
and on-going supervision to enable them to offer the best support to
the young people they mentor. If you are interested in finding out more
please see our volunteering page. Once a year we offer a heavilly discounted opportunity for young people to go away on a residential / holiday together. Previous residentials have been to activity centres and a barge trip with future plans for a hiking / walking holiday. | Up Grade
Our
weekly revision and homework session kicks off in the run up to the
summer exam period. Our volunteers offer free support to create a
revision guide, set up a study group or help with revision and homework.
If you book in advance we will try to ensure a volunteer with
specialist knowledge in your chosen subject will be at the session to
help you but we also offer a walk in service. Suitable for anything up
to A Level standard in most subjects.
